Leinenkugel's 1888 Bock Leinenkugel's has a new Spring Seasonal, and it is the 1888 Bock. It is a bock style beer, shocking, I know what with its name including "bock". I saw it at the store and thought I would give it a shot, since Leinenkugel's rarely is a bad choice.

It's a good beer, it has a nice malty taste, with some significant bitterness. While I normally do not like bitter beers, this beer's bite is not too overwhelming and adds to the character of the maltiness. It uses carmel and chocolate malts, which would tend to create a sweet taste, but the cluster hops used bring down the sweetness and causes the beer to be a bit drier. If there was one complaint I would have about the beer is that it is a bit too dry.

It is a fairly strong beer compared to the lighter mass produced American beers, so it probably wouldn't make for a good session beer if you are used to the 3-4% beers that are most common.

All in all, I would say that it is a good beer, but not a great beer. I would recommend it as a nice change of pace to your regular beer routine.
